Modern Cleaners

904-6 E. Douglas

The Modern Cleaners building is an excellent example of Classic Revival architecture applied to an early 20th century structure. It is particularly unique in that it is one of the oldest surviving commercial buildings in the area and has successfully survived modern redevelopment pressures.

The building was constructed in 1917, by the J. C. Smith Hide Company, a support business to the local livestock industry. In 1991, the building was rehabilitated into a restaurant.
